Mechanical engineers generally work in various companies, private institutions, factories, or public institutions, depending on their area of ​​expertise.

A mechanical engineer, who deals with designing and manufacturing machines using fundamental knowledge such as statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, machine dynamics, robotics, and motors, has the following responsibilities:

  • Producing the highest quality product using the most cost-effective methods,
  • Prioritizing occupational health and safety,
  • Following new information on mechanics and energy conversion,
  • Performing basic calculations accurately and completely,
  • Managing and supervising the personnel working with them,
  • Working on issues such as process improvement, efficiency increase, and cost reduction.

The most important quality expected of a mechanical engineer is strong reasoning ability. Mechanical engineers may encounter various challenges during the design or manufacturing process, and they need to have high concentration and reasoning power to overcome these problems. Other qualities expected of a mechanical engineer are:

  • Having analytical thinking ability,
  • Having imagination and creativity,
  • Having manual dexterity, even at a low level,
  • Ability to generate and develop solutions,
  • Ability to reason mathematically,
  • Being suitable for teamwork,
  • Having high communication skills.

Internships can be completed in businesses employing at least one Mechanical Engineer, such as those involved in the production and assembly of machinery and spare parts, automotive main and sub-industry companies, foundries, maintenance and repair departments of textile factories, government institutions (State Hydraulic Works, Highways Directorate, Village Services, etc.), plumbing, heating-ventilation, air conditioning, and natural gas project offices, and other firms providing engineering and project services (in accordance with the content of Summer Internship I and II).

Yes, mechanical engineers can complete an internship abroad at a company in a sector where such an internship is mandatory. The same application procedure applies to internships abroad. The Compulsory Internship Form, Internship Record Certificate, and the approved pages of the Internship Logbook are prepared in English. The English Internship Record Certificate can be obtained from the Student Affairs Office, and the approved page of the internship logbook from the internship committee. These documents can also be obtained from the engineering faculty's or mechanical engineering department's website. The internship logbook must be completed in English. Students must submit their documents with official certification. Additionally, they are responsible for proving their entry and exit dates from abroad with their passport. Furthermore, students undertaking internships abroad are responsible for their own insurance arrangements.

The submission deadline is 30 business days from the start of the academic term. Notebooks not submitted within the period announced on the department's website will not be evaluated.

The internship report must be prepared electronically. Texts should be in Times New Roman or Calibri font, 12 point size, justified, without paragraph indents, paragraph by paragraph, and single-line. After printing the pages and any appendices, each page should be signed and stamped and uploaded as a single PDF to the relevant section in OBS. Signed and printed internship logbooks should be kept in case the committee requests them during the internship cycle and evaluation period.

Yes, the workplace must have at least one instructor responsible for interns who is a Mechanical/Mechanical and Manufacturing/Manufacturing/Energy Systems/Electrical/Electrical-Electronics Engineer.

Yes, You must prepare separate notebooks for each internship you complete. Additionally, the Internship Attendance Sheet and Internship Evaluation Forms must be filled out separately for each internship.

Yes, if you don't have any courses with mandatory attendance, including your undergraduation thesis and workplace training, you can apply for an internship during the semester. In this case, there should be at least 2 weeks between your internship application and the start date of your internship.
